New install
RH 9.0
Medium security
40GB HD, 512MB ram
external internet via a dialup
internal NIC card for networking

Can reach the internet most of the time
Cannot setup the NIC card (to another Linux computer)
Am using a crossover cable between the two computers.

In which directory do I setup iptables ?
Have looked at google, RH doc project, etc..
Have read that iptables can go in a number of
directories, and that /proc/net/iptables, or
/proc/net/ip_masquerade are the files I need.
Or are these two different files for networking?
Have a default iptables ( ipchains-1.3.9-17 )

On bootup, my eth0 is not setup due to no iptables.
After the two computers are working together,
I want to add two other computers (G3 iMac &
an XP Home system) via a 5 port switch.

Any ideas as to how to get this working?
TIA
Don

Red Hat has publixhed many ideas in the Customization Guide,
User's Manual, and Reference Manual. The Customization
Guide would be a good place to start for initial network
setup.

Red Hat has also provided a whole list of utilities, most of
them in GUI form. Do 'ls /usr/*bin/redhat-config-*'
(without the quote marks) or 'slocate redhat-config | grep
bin/' (also, without the quote marks) to find them.

The file for configuring iptables is
/etc/sysconfig/iptables. In my case, I added rules to
accept input packets from other IP addresses in my local
network.

Good luck.
