| hiya,
i have two dell 2000fp's one running dvi on a nvidia quadro fx 500 and
another d-sub on nvidia mx440 pci
just before it would normally show the gray cross hatched bground and
x-cursor it turns the monitor/s into power save mode, then every 10 seconds
approx looks as if it is going to come out of it and show itself but it is
just a circle of doing that all the time, is this anything to do with a
default resolution limitation? - the screen/s have a native res of 1600 x
1200
the distro is red hat 9 (shrike) - off of red hat linux for dummies book
thanks for any help, much appreciated
Louis

| If your monitor confuses the installer, there are several things you can try
to get through installation. Toward the end of the installation process, it
gives you a chance to provide detailed information about your graphics
chipset and your monitor so the installed system will work correctly.
At the beginning of the install process, you will get the prompt
boot:
and you can enter various boot parameters. These are detailed in Appendix H
of the installation guide, which you can download from www.redhat.com (poke
the support button).
The simplest try is to enter "linux text". Another try is to specify your
screen resolution and turn off power management, eg.
linux apm=off,resolution=1600x1200
