We have a Red Hat 7.2 machine in our lab (don't ask... it's the "latest"
version my employer supports for Linux versions of their software). I
installed 2.4.20-28.7 kernel and source, and then compiled a fresh,
stripped-down kernel from the source. When I try to make install, I
get...

Root device is (3, 2)
Boot sector 512 bytes.
Setup is 4832 bytes.
System is 753 kB
sh -x ./install.sh 2.4.20-28.7custom bzImage
/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-28.7/System.map ""
+ '[' -x /root/bin/installkernel ']'
+ '[' -x /sbin/installkernel ']'
+ exec /sbin/installkernel 2.4.20-28.7custom bzImage
/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-28.7/System.map ''
/sbin/installkernel: /etc/lilo/install: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [install] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-28.7/arch/i386/boot'
make: *** [install] Error 2

So far, everyone has said "The RPMs are screwed up. Just install from
source". *But*... since this is a lab machine for testing our software,
we need to keep this machine as "Red Hat-ish" as possible. What's
missing?
