Author no line-in volume with FC2 alsa and CM8738

I had my motherboard's CMedia 8738 working fine with
line-in with Red Hat 9, so I assumed it would work
the same with Fedora Core 2.

Anyway, I like to play cd's thru my sony diskman, into
the Cmedia line-in and to my PC speakers. This saves
wear and tear on the CDROM drive. After I installed
FC2 I noticed that although I could play wav/mp3/ogg
files via software thru the cm8738 ok, I couldn't get any
volume out of music played into the line-in.
If I run alsamixer, the line-in volume bar is gone
but if I select the column for line-in and use the
up arrow, the bar doesn't go up. The mute is not on
for that column. Any ideas on why I can't
get line-in to work with my CMedia? Is Alsa
not supporting line-in yet (maybe it's under development).
thanks,
Mark
