Red Hat Installation - Kernel panic during install of FC4

Hello people. I am trying to install and getting the EM

> "Cannot open root device "[NULL]" or unknown block.. Please append a
> correct "root=" boot option. Kernel panic -= not synching: VFS : Unable to
> mount root FS on unknown block (104,2)"

My system has an XP2600 fitted with 1024mb of RAM (512 recently added)
Fitted a new hard drive today to try and solve this error. I have tried
loads of differnt versions of Linux and they all give me a panic !!
