since this a big download i'm double checking
on download.fedora.redhat the instructions say to download either the dvd or
4 iso images
the download link to i386/iso has 2 sets of 4 iso images
fc4-i386-srpms-disc1-4.iso dated 6/6/05
and
fc4-i386-disc1-4.iso dated 6/6/05
a google search indicates srpms files need to be compiled

so the non srpms versions have been compiled and should be ready to run
after i burn them
onto cd's? and the 1st image/cd will be bootable??
the target pc is a pentium 3
thanks for help

Yes these would be the files to download if it were me.

FC4-i386-disc1.iso 649838 KB 06/07/2005 02:54:00 AM
FC4-i386-disc2.iso 653036 KB 06/07/2005 02:55:00 AM
FC4-i386-disc3.iso 653276 KB 06/07/2005 02:56:00 AM
FC4-i386-disc4.iso 645032 KB 06/07/2005 02:57:00 AM
FC4-i386-rescuecd.iso 86188 KB 06/07/2005 02:52:00 AM
File: SHA1SUM 1 KB 06/07/2005 05:26:00 PM

After download you need to
verify you have a good download with sha1sum --check SHA1SUM
ftp://ftp.gnupg.org/gcrypt/binary/sha1sum.exe for microsoft users.

You'll definitly want to download the:

FC4-i386-disc1.iso (bootable)
FC4-i386-disc2.iso
FC4-i386-disc3.iso
FC4-i386-disc4.iso

or

FC4-i386-DVD.iso (bootable)

I would suggest FC4-i386-DVD.iso if you have a bootable DVD drive. if
not, you can burn the boot iso image from the DVD or disc1 of the cd
download, or use FC4-i386-rescuecd.iso which can be downloaded.

The SRPMS discs are only required if you want to build packages from
the source code. I never downloaded and installed the source, and
have been running smoothly for months now.

You can always download the SRPMS files individually for what ever you
want to recompile.

After you install Fedora Core 4, you can run 'yum update'
occassionally, or set up a cron job to run it automatically, to keep
your system up to date.

here's a faq site for you... www.fedorafaq.org

Hope this helps
