Hello, WinXP is pre-installed on a machine where I'd like to add Fedora
Core 4. The drive already had two partitions, a Win 'recovery' on D: and
XP itself on C:.

I used PartitionMagic to carve out some free space, so it appears as
follows:

========================================
=====================================
Partition Information for Disk 1: 76,316.1 Megabytes
Volume PartType Status Size MB PartSect # StartSect
TotalSects
========================================
==================================
D: FAT32 Pri 4,245.1 0 0 63
C: NTFS Pri,Boot 40,000.1 0 1 8,694,000
Unallocated Pri 32,070.9 None -- 90,614,160

Now, when I boot with the first FC4 install CD,
1) I get the "to install or upgrade" screen with the "boot:" prompt. I
press <enter>.
2) The screen next displays the "uncompressing Linux ..OK, booting the
kernel" line for about 4 seconds.
3) Then it proceeds directly to the bios splash screen, as in a fresh
boot, and gives me the install/upgrad screen of step (1) again.

Please note that I would like to preserve my XP system if at all
possible, as it was not shipped with a system CD.

Many thanks
