| Hi
I am currently running RH9 and want to install FC3.
As a relative newbie with very limited linux experience, I am looking for
any experiences of this "upgrade" path.
Specifically, I want to know if I can just install FC3 without breaking the
RH9 setup and availability and if there are any fishooks waiting for me in
FC3 that don't exist in RH9.
Any and all opinions very welcome.
Thanks lots
Bruce

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to
think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone´s fault.
If it was Us, what did that make Me ? After all, I´m one of Us. I must be.
I´ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No-one ever thinks
of themselves as one of Them. We´re always one of Us. It´s Them that do
the bad things. <=> Terry Pratchett. Jingo.

| Hi
I don't know how well the upgrade works, but what i did some installs ago,
was seperation of the /home directory into its own filesystem. When
reinstalling / upgrading, I delete all partions except for the partition
containing /home. After the installation I re-create the users with the
same uid and everything is fine again. You might want to consider to put
more directories in seperate partions. e.g. /var/www /var/ftp. Do NOT do
the same with /etc the reinstall probably has different settings. If you
need specific ones, make a backup of it.
When you seperate the home directories it becons even more easy to test a
new installation - if you have some spare unpartionend space on your
harddrive.

Thanks
Hard drive space is not a problem. Is it possible to effectively have 2
separate installs ... file systems and everything ? That would probably be
the best option for me.
