| I installed Red Hat 9.0 a year ago.
What is the best way to update? Must I but a subscription from Red
Hat?

The successor to RH9 is the Fedora Core series. The most current release
is FC3. These ISOs are free and readily available for download from any
number of mirror sources. (The Red Hat web site has a list of those.)
The Red Hat Enterprise versions are mainly designed for corporate or
similar networks where support, security and stability are more important
factors than whether you have the "latest" kernel and programs installed.
I updated my home server from RH9 to FC2 about 4 or 5 months ago. There
were a few glitches that took some legwork to iron out. This mainly tied
back to switches in which programs were included with the distribution.
For example, the switch to Cyrus for mail delivery was a pain, but legwork
eventually fixed that. The system runs fine now all the tweaks and
adjustments were figured out.

| That's what I was afarid of. All I really want is to be able to update
and secure RH 9.0.
I'm so pissed at RH for leaving me in this situation I'm thinking of
spending the time on SUSE. SUSE is a lot cheaper than RH. (I want the
option of adding paid support in the future.)

I don't understand the problem... Fedora Core 3 is free. There is your
upgrade path from RH9. RH9 is no longer supported.

Do you mean that for the past year that you have never updated RHL9
since you installed it???
Visit http://fedoralegacy.org/ download either apt and/or yum and let
the application bring your system current (install all the updates that
apply for your system). Instructions for downloading, installing and
using apt and/or yum are found by clicking on the Documentation link.
