I installed RH 8.0 as a dualboot on my IBM Thinkpad 600.

Everything is okay except for the following error message

========
error initializing the sound driver:
Can't set playback format (_format=-1, asked drive to give 16, got 8)
The sound server will continue using the null output
========

I used sndconfig to set the IRQ to 0x220 and the IRQ to 5
which is what it is in Windows 98 but I am still getting this error

I've searched for this and haven't come across anything that fixes
this
