Author boot with raid hangs

I used kickstart to install RHEL3 on an IBM eSeverer, and got the
following at boot time:

[ megasnippage ]

Mounting root filesystem
mount: error 2 mounting ext3
pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
umount /initrd/proc failed: 2
Freeing unused kernel memory: 228k freed
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.

What's happening?

well ... long story. I modified ks.cfg to build raid partitions, and in
the process broke the LABEL= entries in /etc/fstab and grub.conf --
once I modified fstab and grub.conf to point to the raid entries, all
was good.
