Hi Folks,

Trying to install FC4 32-bit on an old machine however anaconda dies just
after "Reading package list" - traceback below.

* Machine is 233MHz K6, 128MB RAM.
* Installing from DVD image stored on secondary hard disk.
* Booting install from CD boot image.
* Using text-based install (apparently graphical install "isn't available")
* Media check says DVD image is good.

Had no success with Google, so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in adavnce,

Andy

Hi, I get same error message, and I am using pretty much the same
installation strategy and media as you are, except:

* I use the four CD iso images
* And they sit on the same drive that i'm installing FC4 onto, (on a
partition not integral to the OS)

This is a Toshiba Portege laptop (is yours a Desktop?), with
128MB RAM
I, too, was forced into text mode.

(I think the 128MB RAm is below the minimum for graphical mode)

Also, although this documented bug -
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzill...g.cgi?id=160944 - describes
a spontaneous reboot well into the package installation, it DOES
mention the RAM.

Seems like this particular quantity of RAM - 128MB - causes a problem.
Perhaps what you and I experienced is the effect of the same root cause
as the one in the above bug.

My anaconda output is:
