I have a Intel Pentium D 915 Dual Core 2.8GHz & Motherboard Combo with
4 gigs of RAM. I have been trying endlessly to install FC5 on it - but
the installation freezes at various places every time.
It spilled out errors saying some .py files and line numbers during few
failures, few other times it froze when I inserted the CD#2, rest of
the time it stopped responding while copying any random files.
I tried every single installation method from the console, linux
mediacheck, linux text and every thing else - but nothing seems to work
for me. I tried from different installation disks and CD drives as
well.
I also ran memtest86, which gave me whole lot of erros however, at
different memory addresses. But the interesting part is, this is a new
machine and FC5 was previously installed on this. We decided to scrap
that installation as XEN was giving lot of hard time.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Alright apparently I have figured this out.
The solution lied in the part that I forgot to mention - my HDD
arrangement. I had two 300GB drives one SATA another IDE. The CD ROM
was connected as a slave with the single IDE cable that this particular
motherboard offers. In other words, the IDE HDD and the CD ROM was
connected via a single data cable. And I was trying to install FC5 on
that particular IDE drive (not the SATA).
The problem got solved as soon as I disconnected the SATA before
starting to install process. It finished the installation without a
single peep.
