Author indirect info on linux usage

A year or three after I started using linux I produced some tux based linux
wallpaper and put them on my website.

For three years the most common successful search terms leading people to my
site involved the words, linux tux wallpaper. If I put them all together there
were more successful queries based upon those than for anything on the rest of
the 295M wide-ranging material.

Note these are simply keyword query results. They have no relation to downloads
of the wallpaper and do not convey either 'awesome' or 'awshit' opinions of
them. It indicates only what people were searching for.

The drop in such queries MAY indicate a decline in new linux users. I remember
searching for wallpaper when I started using it.

This would mirror the stabilization in user share indicated by other sources.

That would be like saying that because nobody uses wallpaper that has the
MSWindows logo, nobody uses Windows.

For my self and just about everyone else I know, they would rather have
wallpapers of things other than OS logos. I myself use my own photography
and would not even think of looking for a "tux" wallpaper.

I am not infering from hits on my site but to SEARCHES for what happens to be
on my site. So it is indicative of interest. Certainly not indicative at the
Sysadmin level but at the home user level that sort of likes wallpaper.

The stats have shown a fixed market penetration of linux for about a year now
which sort of corresponds to these searches. It was very surprising information
for me. And as I have a 4/10 importance rating from google this is likely the
source of two of those four.

I presented this solely as an item of interest after I finally found a
reasonable explanation for the decline after years of not having an explanation
for the interest in wallpaper. I never understood why it was of interest in the
first place.

Only of those coming to your site. BFD, I don't even have any interest in
your site!
