| Hi All,
Can I have IIS 6.0 installed on WinXP professional ?
Is it necessary to upgrade or migrate from WinXP to Win2003 for IIS 6.0 ?
Thanks and Regards

Only IIS5.1 can be installed on Win XP Pro. IIS is now regarded as an
integral part of the OS and as such cannot be mixed and matched. Read

| Thanks Bernard for the information.
Even if IIS 6.0 is an integral part of win2003, isn't it availaible
seperately also .
That means I would have to switch from the OS WinXP to Win2003 , just
because i want to port my application from IIS 5.0 to IIS 6.0.
Can you please tell me more about migration tool. I am not clear with it.
Thanks and Regards

So you mean to say there is no way to install IIS 6.0 on WinXP
professional.Just to shift from IIS 5.0 to 6.0 , I would have to change the

As far as I understand it, IIS 6.0 has been written to take advantage of new
features in Windows 2003.
Therefore it will only run on Windows 2003.
I think (though never tried!) the same applied with IIS5.0 - it didn't run
on NT 4.0
You can get a Snap-in that allows you to _CONTROL_ IIS 6.0 machines from XP,
but not actually get IIS6.0 running on XP.
As a matter of interest, what are you creating that requires IIS 6 that
means you can't either install W2K3 on your current XP machine, or connect
your XP machine to a W2K3 server elsewhere on your network and develop
against that?

I have to port ISAPIFilter Application from IIS 5.1 to IIS 6.0 .
For that matter I just got surprised with the unwanted extra task of porting
OS also from winXP ( current system) to Win 2003
So now I go by your words and start working on getting OS Win2003.
Thanks Dan

| There's no separate download for IIS6.0, to get that you need to purchase
Win2003. As for the migration tool, refer -
