Does anyone see advantages going with Server 2003 Web over the Standard
version of 2003.

Thanks

Running a few hundred blades with Web Edition fronting a back-end SQL
cluster would save you enough to buy that BMW over using 2003
Standard...

And that's exactly what it's designed for.

Hello,

The web edition is designed for hosting website only. So, since the
usage of it is limited, it will also be cheaper.

As for the webserving part, Standard and Web are almost identical. You
can see an overview of the difference here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsser...tures/compareed
itions.mspx

So, if you plan on using this in a webhosting environment, you will
probably choose the Web Edition, because that will be the cheapest
option.

Please make sure you understand what you can do, and cannot do with the
Web Edition before buying it. You might have a need that does not suit
the Web Edition (for example you want to run SQL Server on the same
machine, in an Intranet environment[1]).

Overview of the Web Edition:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsser...erview/web.mspx

[1] I do not recommend using a public webserver as database server. It
might work fine in an Intranet environment.

Hope this helps you, and good luck with your webserver!

Thanks very much for your post... I appreciated the BMW idea but this post
nailed my questions.

Thanks
