Author Under construction - After typing http://localhost in IIS 6.0

Hi All,
I have successfully installed iis 6.0 and allowed Web server extensions
also for ASP , however, when I go to the browser and type
http://localhost
I get the page which displays:
Under Construction. The site you are trying to view does not currently have
a defalult page...........
I have checked out "Enabling and Disableing Dynamic content" also and
ensured that Web Service Extension "ASP" is allowed.
Even for the request type
http://localhost/iishelp/iis/misc/default.asp
I get 404 error.

I have another Web Applicaton which when requested returns me HTTP 500
error. I have ensured that service is running properly and there isn't any
error reported in the event view and iis6.0 logs too.I fail to understand
why the page is not getting displayed appropriately.
FYI: i tried gaving requests in both the modes of iis6.0

Can any one tell me please which step I am missing or where there is a gap.
Thanks and Regards
barkha shah

Howdy Barkha Shah,

ASP is working or you would not have had the default page come up.

I think you'll need to focus on what you're trying to browse to when you
actually browse the asp file.

Try using the MMC for IIS to browse to the file. From the MMC, right click
the file you wish to browse to, then tell us the error message if you see
one at all.

Also, please tell us about any error messages in your event logs.

Hi Tony,
I have solved the problem of 500 Internal server error by checking out the
detailed error ( unchecked the "Show freindly error messages").
However,on typing
http://localhost
I am still getting the error as follows: Any clue!!!!!

Under Construction

The site you are trying to view does not currently have a default page. It
may be in the process of being upgraded and configured.

Please try this site again later. If you still experience the problem, try
contacting the Web site administrator.

If you are the Web site administrator and feel you have received this
message in error, please see "Enabling and Disabling Dynamic Content" in IIS
Help.

To access IIS Help
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open text box, type inetmgr. IIS Manager appears.
From the Help menu, click Help Topics.
Click Internet Information Services.
Thanks

Hello,

The under construction page the normal page one will receving when browsing
the web site from a remote machine. You will need to set a default
document for this site in the properties of the web site, on the documents
tab. Make sure to put your newly added document at the top of the page.
