| Hi everyone! I don't know if this is the correct group to post this question to but i'm going to give it a try. I live a house with 5 roommates and we have a wireless internet set up with a Microsoft Base Station MN-500 and each of us have the Wireless A
dapter MN-510. Two of the roommates got their computers cleaned out over our christmas break and need to reinstall the software. The problem is that we need the WEP key and we have no idea what it is or how to find it. Does anyone know how we would go
about finding it? Otherwise, do we need to reset the whole system. Any help would be very much appreciated

| This is not the correct newsgroup - but I had trouble find it
So I'll help you out a bit
The WEB Key is located in the wireless security selection of the BASE
STATION's internal web page.
So from inside your network, you'll have to access the base station,
provide the admin username and password, then you can get the wireless wep
key.
Thank you,

| You have three choices for determining the WEP key for your base station:
1. If you have a backup "settings" file for the BaseStation (when you first
set up the MN500, this is one of the files that you get prompted to save),
you can find the WEP key inside the file (as well as SSID name and channel
#)
2. If you know the password to the internal admin website of the
BaseStation, you can log in to it and find the WEP key under the "Wireless
Security" tab. If you don't know the internal IP of the website, you can go
to a machine that is currently working with wireless and find the IP of the
"Gateway" (you can use the Network Connections control panel applet or type
IPCONFIG on the command shell to find this info). Default installation is
probably 192.168.2.1
3. If you cannot do #1 or #2 but want these new computers to connect via
wireless, then your only choice is to hit the hard-reset button at the back
of the MN-500 and set everyone up from scratch again. Remember to save the
settings file or admin password this time to avoid having to do #3.
Like any password, when you set up WEP for wireless, it is important to
remember the password or else you lose access and have to start-over.
That's the way good security works because to build in any "back-door"
renders the technology inherently insecure.
