Localhost won't work

| I think for some reason my server isn't working. This is all very new to me so please be patient. I have loaded up hte IIS compenent in XP professional. I can get the site running. But when I try localhost on IE it tells me the page has loaded but the pag
e just appears white! all the default pages etc are there but they will not load up in IE. Any ideas greatlt recieved

| further information. Everything ping's ok, I have unchecked LAN setting, but all i get a blank white page, no error, no message, nothing!!

Does the IP address of the server work? Have you tried a simple Hello
World! HTML file?

| Hi guys,
I'm new at this too. My issues started when I when I had to reinstall IIS. I can surf the web fine and view my localhost pages in Mozilla, but IE can't see any of my local host pages. I get various errors including
"HTTP 500 - Internal server error Internet Explorer" or
"Gateway Timeout
The following error occurred:
[code=GATEWAY_TIMEOUT] A gateway timeout occurred. The server is unreachable. Retry the request. "

For that:
Cannot find "localhost":
Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings ->
Uncheck everything.
