Hi,

I have set up a web site on this machine under the
Default Web Site. In the Properties for the web site,
under Directory Security, under Edit for Anonymous access
and authentication control, the "Anonymous access" box is
checked, and the "Account used for anonymous access"
fields are filled out with User name "IUSR_CHEROKEE"
where CHEROKEE is the name of the computer, and the
Password field is filled but grayed out, with the "Allow
IIS to control password" checkbox checked underneath it.
No authenticated access is enabled.

The problem is, when I try to access the web site as
http://localhost/web_site/default.asp, I get a 401.1
Unauthorized error, "You are not authorized to view this
page". When I check in the Event Viewer, under System
logs, there is a Warning with the following message:

"The server was unable to logon the Windows NT
account 'IUSR_CHEROKEE' due to the following error: Logon
failure: unknown user name or bad password."

The link to "additional information specific to this
message" returns nothing, "We're sorry" and "There is no
additional information about this issue..."

I haven't touched any of the IIS Web settings since I
installed Windows XP on this computer and enabled IIS, so
everything should be set to its defaults.

Does anyone know what's going on, and what I can do to
fix this?

Run synciwam.vbs to resynch the password. Post the event log error
number and source.
