Author Is there conflict between IIS and HP Web Jetadmin?

System: WinXP SP1.

I have HP Web JetAdmin installed on my computer in order to maintain the HP
printers in our network.

After installed IIS I began getting the following pair of errors when my
system boots:

1. HPWebJetd.exe - Application error
The instruction at 0x6ff02f78 referenced memory at 0x18. The memory could
not be "read".

2. (A little later) Apache HTTP Service encountered a problem and needed to
close. When I view the error report, I observe the following Error
signature:

szAppName: HPWebJetd.exe szAppVer 2.0.43.0
szModName: libhttpd.dll szModVer 2.0.43.0

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks,

Jim

If you shutdown IIS, do you still have these problems?

The applications should be separate products (that is, HP Web JetAdmin
should not use any components that IIS uses), and should be able to co-exist
on the same machine. They could however conflict in that they both want to
use the same port(?), and in this case, the HP application crashes because
of a software failure.

I think that you need to contact HP about this. Maybe they have an update of
the application?

Kristofer,

Thanks for responding to my posting so quickly.

I am getting errors from two places HPWebJetd.exe and Apache HTTP service.
Are either of these being used or called by IIS? Or, is this entirely an HP
problem?

Entirely HP. The HP Web JetAdmin uses Apache as it's web server. And
it can be bound to a second IP address if need be, to keep it separate
from IIS, but I don't believe there's normally a conflict between the
two.

"Apache HTTP Service", is that the Apache Webserver? Is this something that
got installed together with HP Web JetAdmin (is it related to HP Web
JetAdmin)?

Apache WebServer is independent of IIS, i'm not sure how HP Web JetAdmin
works. It is possible that these applications share some file with IIS, and
that this file was "updated" (but probably downgraded) when you installed
IIS, and because of this, your other application does not work.

Can you do a re-install of the failing application?

The failing module is libhttpd.dll, and a quick search on google tells me
that this file is related to Apache. I'm completely sure that IIS does not
modify this file in any way, but this does not exclude that the installation
of IIS changed something. I would try to uninstall everything related to HP
Web JetAdmin, and re-install it.

I don't think that your problem will be solved by uninstalling IIS (but
please make sure that you try to completely shut down IIS, because it binds
to ports it should not bind to, and this can cause problems, but the other
application should not behave like this in that case).

But to be honest, i dont think that this is related to IIS. You *should*
(but we never know when we talk about computers) not get a "The memory could
not be read" if IIS was what was causing the problem. This should indicate
that the application has some failing pointers.

Jim,

Neither of them should be called by IIS. The only conflict appears to
be on port listening. I'm not familiar with the HTTP listening port
config of Apache(in http.conf?). You can open IIS mmc and change all
web sites' TCP port to a value other than 80, restart IIS - iisreset
command, double check by using netstat:

netstat -an

Make sure there is no longer the following record which is listening
on all IP's 80 port (IIS).

TCP 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

Then you can reinstall HP Web Jetadmin to test.

Thanks to the several people who replied to my posting.

I uninstalled the HP Web JetAdmin software, and the error messages on bootup
disappeared.

I then downloaded and installed the latest version of this software from the
HP website. It uses port 8000 by default. I was able to configure it and
use. I rebooted the computer, and there are no errors.

This problem is now solved.

Jim
