Why does internet explorer not work sometimes when trying to access an ftp
site (either anonymous or otherwise) but if you try the same thing through
an ftp client it works fine? Is this a setting in internet explorer?

Good questions for an Internet Explorer group. IE makes a fine web
browser, but not the best FTP client.
