IIS Server - opening registry key

I'm getting an error when opening a web site in front page.

Server Error: Error 5 opening registry key "software\classes\.application".

Where in IIS or Front page can this be resolved?

I cannot find a document that addresses this issue. Hopefully someone has an
idea how to fix it.

I did find document 833699 which discuss identity.

The MSSharePointAppPool application pool identity is using "Local System"
problem still exists

The problem is definitely on the Server as anyone using any PC has the same
problem.

Need ideas to try next.
