As I noted in my earlier response, I think the permissions are fine. But it
was worth a look anyway and thanks for the tip.

I decided to be pro-active and remove 2002 server extensions and install
2000 server extensions instead.

Here is what I am trying to do: I am trying to run FP2002 on machine A and
use IIS on machine B (the machine I just installed and re-configured with
server extensions 2000).

I now get a COMPLETELY new series of problems.

FP on machine A CANNOT create a new web on machine A. I've run the
permissions wizard on B, I've even explictly tried to set the permissions on
B using explorer. NOTHING works.

If I create a new web on machine B using EITHER the IIS admin mmc or the
2000 Server extensions mmc, I get a fully CREATED web site with all the
_vit... stuff in it.

However if I use FP2002 on A to OPEN a create website explictly using
"http://machineb/testwebx", I get

"The folder //machineb/testwebx isn't available. The folder may be located
in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename
contains a / or a \."

Yet, when I access an external website using such as http://www.ISP.com or
http://www.ISP.com/subwebname in the open web page, it works w/o a problem.

However, If I explictly create a "my network places shortcut," it resolves
internally as \\machineb\testwebx" and *NOT* http://machineb/testwebx . And
when I access it using the derived UNC address, I get permission errors in
trying to save into it or I get a bogus message saying that FP has to modify
_vti_pvt -- and then fails because it cannot create it (DOH, it already
exists!!). Does anybody know how I can force it to use the URL and not UNC
address?

I can access this testwebx using http://machineB/testwebx via IE without
problems (once I configured IIS to allow default pages).

ALL I WANT TO DO IS CREATE A *STUPID* LITTLE TEST WEB for a intranet project
using FrontPage 2002.

SP2 firewall, 2002 server extensions, Nortan Internet security and front
page and who know what else, has FOUGHT ME EVERY INCH OF THE WAY!

Is this too @#$%^& much to ask?

CAN anybody help me? What do I have to do here?
