I have a nachine with Win2k sp4 server, it's running IIS. Well was
running IIS; it is not a web server so i used it for testing a long
time ago. I decided to do it again, but there's a problem.
IIS is not working. Localhost isn't responding via hhtp;
when I try to launch IIS admin, I get "System cannot find a path
specified" when I try to ocnnect to the server to manage it.
When I shut down and restert IIS Admin and Web Publishing services, an
error appears in event log:
Unable to query the W3SVC (HTTP) service performance data. The error
code returned by the service is data DWORD 0.

I ma not sure if this error is related to the problem cause its
descriptions on MS site and forums are irrelevant...
What is it and how do i start fixing it?

Please verify which service portion of IIS is not functioning: W3SVC or
IISADMIN

- If W3SVC is not functioning, port 80 is not listened on, so localhost
won't respond to HTTP
- If IISADMIN is not functioning, the UI will not work, and you cannot
configure IIS settings
- There may be something legitimately wrong with perf counters so I would
not say that it is "irrelevant", but it is tangential to core IIS
functionality so I would ignore it for now.

Have you ever seen IIS function on this server before, and if so, what is
the configuration that last time.
Has the server joined a domain since that last time; if so, Group Policy
(various security lockdowns) may be the culprit
Has the server had personal security/anti-virus/firewall/IDS/etc software
installed; if so, those programs have been known to intentionally break IIS
beyond repair.

Sometimes, you may have to just reinstall IIS because many things may
corrupt/break IIS but you just don't know about it, but first we have to
make sure that you're in that state.many

O am not aware of nay changes ot the configuration and yes,it was ok
before. Oh, installed VS2005 w. .NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 on this
box at osme point but I don't think it could've screwed it up.

Outpost firewall; the perf scanner is Sysinternals Proccess Explorer.
They are ok with IIS on all the other computers.
