Hi,

I have stopped a site to do some maintenance and when i try to start it
again the MMC just hangs and does not start the website. It stopped
with no problems. Before I attempt to start it I can view the
properties of it with no problems. I attempted to create a new site and
had the same hang/crash problem. Task manager shows the MMC as
"running" and NOT "Not Responding", if i end task i can try again but
whenever i try to start the site it hangs again.

I have restarted the server twice. Its Windows 2003 Web Edition.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks
Sam

Is it just the UI that is "hanging and not responding" or is the actual
website not responding (and if not responding, are you certain IIS is
listening for the website or not)?

It sounds like the UI on your server is configured to load some bad UI
plugins that affect the MMC snapin but has no relation to actual IIS server
behavior. If so, you should attach a debugger onto mmc.exe and obtain the
name of the offending module and get it fixed.

The website is responding to the browser (even tho it is stopped) but
is saying directory listing denied, and when i type the name of a page
on that site (main.asp) i get a 404.

There are 6 over sites on the server working perfectly, but im sure if
i stopped them i would be able to start them again.

The FTP service can start and stop with no problems.

There are no "UI" plugins, the only thing that has been added is a PHP
extension, but it has been disabled.

How would i attach a debugger to mmc.exe?

Thanks
Sam
