| Greetings,
I had to leave our companies' FTP site open over this weekend to Anonymous
access since the jackass that needed to use the ftp site is running Windows
98 from his home. With that said, I came in this morning to stop anonymous
access and much to my surprise (or lack their of) was someone from the
outside world that buried a folder tree of at least 10 folders deep, of
which I was able to remove 4. Now I have a folder that constantly tells me
that I cannot delete the rest of the folders or its subfolders since it
cannot find the source file or disk. My thinking is that somehow the folder
permissions were removed and now there is no access to these folders.
I am running Windows 2000 SP4 in Terminal services mode under Remote
administration. Can anyone guide me to how I can regain the access
necessary to remove this misnamed folders?

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter,
Robert Wisian Jr.

| I have run into this before. I couldn't even open the folders to see what
was inside. Check this KB this is what helped me.

I don't know about that. I've run into users like this guy - their computer
skills amount to "Click the Icon" and "Click OK" ("Double-click? How do I do
that?")
Give 'em a username and they'll either:
* get hopelessly confused by the complexities of typing it into a blank box
or
* turn it into a weapon and mess up their computer so bad an OS reload is
required
sorry, bad day because of Novarg

Robert,
Refer to this KB article for possible ways to remove those files :
You Cannot Delete a File or a Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320081
It is also sometimes said that files which were created with an FTP
client must by definition also be able to be removed by an FTP client.
I have never had to try this out for myself though.
It is also worth considering rebuilding a server that has been
compromised. Check this FAQ out for more information :
