When attempting to connect to FTP from home, I was getting the following
error:

Make sure you have permission to view this folder.
200: Type set to A.
500: Invalid PORT command
500: LPRT 6,16,0,0,....... command not understood

I found one article on the MS KB that I thought might apply: KB833891 which
uses the iisdump utility to determine if Retain in Memory or Unattended
Execution is set to false. I ran the utiltity and the only line in the log
that refers to these items was this:

<DLL Path="C:\PROGRAM FILES\SUPPORT TOOLS\IADSTOOLS.DLL"
Version="1.1.0.2230" Timestamp="25/03/2003 03:18:50"
UnattendedExecution="false" RetainInMemory="false" />

I'm running IIS 6.0, so I tried figured I should try creating a
configuration file named W3wp.exe.cfg with the text:

[Options]
Unattended=1
Retained=1

I created this in Notepad and saved it as the name and placed it in
%windir%\system32\inetsrv folder as directed. Nothing really seemed to
happen, so my questions are:
Am I reading the dump log correctly?...the dll and location thereof in the
example of the KB document is not the same, but that dll doesn't exist in
the log.
Did I run the iisdump in the wrong place? I just went into the folder in
which it was installed and ran it from the command line.
Am I going about this config file thing the wrong way? I don't fully
understand the instructions in the KB as to compiling, etc.

Thanks for any advice!

Jenna,

The KB article you referenced is for troubleshooting ActiveX
components not IIS FTP connection issues !?!

The most likely explanation of your problem is a firewall rule which
is preventing your client's connection from completing.

Try this KB article :

FTP Error: 500 Invalid PORT Command

Thank you...I just searched for articles by the error and found that other
article, but didn't know how it would apply.
I did see the article that you mentioned, as well, but I don't understand
how to proceed with that. It was working fine originally, but then we
upgraded the server from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003, Windows 2000 Server
to Windows 2003 Server, and IIS5.0 to IIS6.0. I had to recreate the FTP
sites on there after the updates. Now everything seems to be breaking down.
We also have ISA Server on this box, but nothing has been changed there and
it should have everything open for FTP.
How do I need to apply the KB article you sent me?
Thanks!

This one is like an onion, each layer reveals a new part of the
problem...

If you are running ISA server on the machine then you need to
configure it to allow FTP publishing.

Try these KB articles :

Protocol Server

Acceleration Server 2000
