IIS FTP Server - FTP Folder error

Author FTP Folder error

I have set up FTP Server on W2K Pro using IIS 5.0. When I try to log in using the web browser I always get the error FTP Folder Error An error occurred opening that folder on the FTP Srver. Make sure you have permission to access that folder. Datails:
200 type set to A
500 Invalid Port Command
500 LPRT 6,16, 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0 command not understood
I have set usernames and access right. Eventhough I use the admin username, I still get the error. Need help please!

Hi.
I had the same problem.
But I had ftp port 1049.
When I changed this port to the default (21), this problem solved.

So.. Try to change the port to default.

I did not change the port. I use the default (21).

I read the article but was not sure what the resolution=20
was. So, I did change the port to another, higher port=20
but I still got the same problem. Then I changed it back=20
to 21. I don't know what to do next. Sometimes it works=20
just a couple of hours or a day and back to the same=20
problem. Please help!

My server is running W2K pro with SP4. I have setup FTP=20
server using IIS5.0 behind the NAT. My router is SMC. I=20
set up forwarded ports both TCP and UDP 20 and 21 to the=20
private IP address on that server. What I'm trying to do=20
is to get access to the FTP server using web browser not=20
the FTP client. Could you please tell me step by step=20
what I need to do to get it to work?

Chris,

If you are running IE5.5 or later (and your FTP setup is working
properly) then you shouldn't need to do anything at all.

IE5.5 or later supports both active and passive transfer modes. See
the FTP Clients Provided by Microsoft section of this KB article :

Thank you. That means I have to upgrade to IIS5.5. Is
that correct? So, you think the problem is the IIS? I
don't think the problem is Internet Explorer because
sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm still
getting the error.

Now, try to setup the passive port range in your w2k.
say 5500-6000

open this port range in your NAT. then try to access again.

Chris,

No. There is no IIS5.5. The article states that only IE5.5 (Internet
Explorer) and later support both modes of transfer.

Versions prior to IE5.5 only support passive mode. You have only
opened up ports 20 and 21 on your router which will allow only
clients using active mode to connect. If you want to connect using a
browser you need to be using a browser that supports active mode -
IE5.5 or later.

Bernard,
It works but I got another error problem this time. When
I tried to copy some files TO the server or create
directory ON the server I got an error 200 type set to I,
200 port command successful, 550 "file name" Access is
denied. I was able to do it before. Any suggestion would
be appreciated.

Make sure you have permission on the newly created folder. Verify the ftp
log and NTFS permission again.
