I'm getting a strange error message, that seems to be
tied to permissions on folders but I really can't say for
certain, on my FTP server. I'm running IIS 6.0 on
Windows Server 2003, using Active Directory.

The strange part about this was that the FTP server was
running fine. Then we had to do an uninstall and
reinstall of Active Directory to fix a totally unrelated
issue. When we reinstalled it, the FTP server started
giving me the strange error.

Here's the issue: Whenever someone logs into the FTP
server, the server seems to authenticate them without
issue. However, whenever it attempts to return the
directory listing, we keep getting the following error:

! Retrieve of folder listing failed (4)

This occurs regardless of whether the user is anonymous
or an actual user in Active Directory.

I've tried everything, including giving the users
administrative rights. Nothing seems to be working.

The FTP root folder (c:\inetpub\ftproot) has two
subfolders: 'LocalUser' and another one that matches the
name of the domain. Inside of LocalUser, we have a
folder called 'Public', and inside of the domain folder
we have folders for each of the users who have FTP access
to the server.

Each user has been given full access rights to their
respective folder.

I searched the knowledge base for that error message - no
luck. I'm at the end of my rope here. Any ideas on
where to look?

Thanks in advance.

When you setup your ftp user isolation. do you select AD integrated ?
sounds like permission has been messup, anything else in event log ?
ftp log ?
