The easiest is to save the Word document as html and put
that on the web site. The URL would be something like
http://youracct.home.earthlink.net/docname.htm

Thank you, Bruce.
Where can I look to find what goes in the part of the URL that says,
"youracct.home"?

"youracct" would be your friend's userid. "home" is just
part of the URL. I am basing this on a related domain
that also belongs to Earthlink. Your friend should know
the URL. For example, my site would
be "http://bmichel.home.mindspring.com/something.htm"
