I have a customer who needed a FTP site. I can access it just fine (I
always use command line though). He can't access it through a web
browser. I have checked on my firewall as he tries to access the site,
and no errors pop up.

Am I missing something within IIS that will give him access to the FTP
site through a browser? He can access it via a command line tool just fine.

Thanks,
Steve

What web-browser?
Anonymous or authenticated access?

Cheers
Ken

IE is the browser. And access is set to authenticated, he does have a
account on the server, so that shouldn't be a issue!!

Does it work if you use:

ftp://user:password@ftpserver.company.com

Cheers
Ken

Check ftp server log. most likely passive mode issue.
if you force IE to active mode, do you still experience the problem ?
How To Configure Internet Explorer to Use Both the FTP PORT Mode and PASV
Mode in Windows 2000

if you running W2k SP4 and above, you can configure passive port range.

also make sure firewall config allow traffic for the required port range.

Ken,

I don't know if it does or not at this point, right now I just know that
it doesn't work through IE, but it does allow him in via the command
line FTP.

I'm using Win2003 Server, is this still a factor at this point?

You have to test the IE ftp port mode,
check your firewall policy, ftp log and etc....

before we can move on.

I am asking if it works if you use the URL below in the address bar in
Internet Explorer.

Cheers
Ken

Not for me, because I'm behind my work's firewall and proxy/socks
server. I can never get to it from here.

But this is not about you - it's about "him" (whoever "him" is).

Yes, it does work within IE.

Then I think you are running into a limitation of the IE client. I'm not
sure that IE supports access to FTP sites that require authentication unless
you supply credentials in the URL address bar.

In any case, this is not really an IIS question anymore - I suggest you
check in an IE newsgroup for a definitive answer on how IE can connect to
non-anonymous FTP sites.

Cheers
