| Can someone suggest an article on this.
I have "10 steps to a secure ftp server" - very helpful but not for setting
up needed accounts.
The servers in good shape, but I'm confused about how to ideally set up
accounts for multiple users. I have an xp and a w2k machine, each with an
ftp site.

| I lied. I am once again hopelessly lost. Guess I'll try the Microsoft book
"Windows security inside/out." Setting up a vulnerable ftp site was a
breeze. Setting up a properly secured one is close to impossible for those
of us with other careers. ...be nice if things were more in the middle.

| Well apparently there's quite a bit to this. I cannot find a good article
outlining all the necessary steps. I can't find a good step by step that
doesn't ignore some important area, so naturally I thought I'd buy "Windows
security inside/out."
1. ftproot needs permissions (what users and how does it inherit
considering #7)
2. Users need to have Home Directory folders in ftproot
3. How do Home Directories inherit permissions?
4. A users group is needed (permissions?)
5. Individual accounts are needed (do these show as os log ons?)
6. I need to be able to access all ftp folders from outside and from Win
explorer (permissions)
7. Do virtual directories figure into this? (I run xp pro and w2k pro
with a signal site on each)

| I'm lost
could you redefine your problems and things you need to achieve ?
everything in ftp will bound to NTFS permission you configured.
