DIR LISTING FREEZES

| I've an FTP server running on 2000. When i connect internall using ftp.exe, i don't have problems in getting the directory listing for the FTP site. But, when used externally, directory listing freezes. What I found was, internally, it uses a port <5000,
which connected without any problem, but externally, it uses port >10000 which gives a problem. Is there any solution for the above.
Thanks in advance,
VJ
