| I am trying to set up a FTP site on an NT 4.0 Server.
-I have the site created
-the accounts that will have access have the rights to log
on locally and access this machine from th network
-the folder that the FTP virtual folder points to has
read/write permissions for the accounts that will access it
-The system account has full control
-I can hyperterminal to port 21
-allow anonymous connections is not checked for the main
FTP site (but it doesnt work if I check this either)
-I have the correct domain assigned in the Metabase
through Windows Script Host
When I connect to the site in IE
(ftp://host.domain.com/FtpVirtualFolder ) and log in as
user@host.domain.com with the correct password - I get a
message that says...
Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the
file name correctly and that you have permission to access
the folder.
details:
220 Secure gateway FTP server ready
530 Access Denied

Abbott,
Try this KB article :
Err Msg: 530 User <Username> Cannot Log In. Login Failed.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=200475
Is port 20 open or is it being blocked by any device ?
Can you connect using command line ftp ?

| I can connect to FTP on command line or in IE, but when i try to login
using any account (including administrator), I get access denied.
I had seen the suggested article when I first started researching this
issue, and all had been verified but it still didnt work.

Ok. Try connecting with command line ftp and post the exact error
message you get. I'm sure we can fix this.
Have you made sure that the server is set to allow non-anonymous user
access ?

| Allow anonymous access is checked.
Enable Automatic password synchronization is checked.
Allow only anonymous connections is not checked.
When i ftp to the site, I connect and I'm prompted for a username. I
enter username@host.domain.com. Then I get a "530 Access Denied. Login
Failed" message.

Have you got any IP address restrictions in place on the ftp server ?
I'm having a hard time understanding why this isn't working....

Any TCP/IP restrictions or firewalls in place? I'm assuming the user
has proper NTFS permissions to the FTPRoot, and you've granted the
user the "Log In Locally" right. (I jumped in late...)

| No IP restrictions.
I don't understand why its not working either. I think I'm going to
uninstall FTP, reinstall, and re-apply service pack 6a and see if that
helps.

Sp6a? That means you're on NT 4. Oh yes, you said so in your first post.
Try domain\username instead of username@domain.com. Windows 2000 is the
first Windows OS to support UPN format logins.
Alun.

| make sure the IWAM_USR account has access to the filesystem, and the folders
you are trying to publish.

The IWAM_ user account is used to run out of process web sites. It has
nothing to do with the FTP service at all.

When prompted for a user name enter "anonymous"
you will then be prompted for a password, enter
"username@host.domain.com"
