Author IIS loses connection if someone uses Remote Desktop Connection to server

I have a server with win 2000 advanced sp4 and IIS 5. It has an FTP
connection through IIS to a Novell (ver. 4.83.0.0 sp2) server. The FTP site
uses a local login name and password from the local (2000) server to gain
access to the directory on the other server (novell). There is an
application on the 2000 server that gets files from the novell server
through FTP. If someone uses Remote Desktop Connection from their computer
to access the 2000 server, when they log out, I get a password exception
error when trying to get a file from the novell server through FTP. The only
way I have found to fix it is to restart the 2000 server and it re-creates
the connection to the FTP site. It is only happening when someone uses the
Remote Desktop Connection from their pc.
Does anybody have any ideas why this is happening?
Thanks for the help.

Chris,

I've never heard of this problem before. What exact error messages are
you seeing ? Anythign in Event Viewer ?

The System Log in the event viewer has an error for the MSFTPSVC that says:
User billboard failed to log on, could not access the home directory /.
The user account is the same account that the server is logged on with. The
error in the application is :
Communications exception, the password is incorrect.

If I go into the FTP log files the only error there is:
USER Billboard 331
PASS - 530

Thanks.

Weird. I don't quite get you on this part -
'If someone uses Remote Desktop Connection from their computer
to access the 2000 server, when they log out'

so you have a FTP that has a virtual directory link to a novell server ?
from the error, it looks like user can't access the home directory.

Chris,

This KB article relates to the error you are seeing :

Err Msg: 530 User <Username> Cannot Log In, Home Directory
Inaccessible. Login Failed.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=221934

When you say "user account is the same account that the server is
logged on with" do you mean that the user is logging on with the same
account that you have configured in IIS to access the Novell server ?

There are special considerations when placing content on remote
virtual directories. Refer to this KB article for more information :

How to Enable Pass-Through Authentication for FTP UNC Virtual
Directories
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=247970

Have you checked the Novell server to see that the correct permissions
have been set on the folders you want to access ? Any errors in the
Novell logs, etc ?
