Hi,

I am a newbie to this technology and I really need help to get this
configured. I am using Windows XP Pro I have just installed IIS and
now wish to create my own FTP server so that I can access the files
placed their from any where in the world.

My ISP is NTLWORLD. I know how to obtain my IP address.

How do I create my own FTP Site so that I can access the files that I
place there from anywhere in the world using Internet Explorer or
Netscape.

I also need to know how to create the security permissions to ask for
a user name and password.

Step-By-Step instructions will really help me.

Thanks in advance for your help.

OK. Are you accessing the FTP site locally (i.e. on the actual server
itself) or are you seeing this error when you try to connect from a
remote machine ?

Are you running a firewall on your FTP server which might be blocking
any inbound traffic ?

Have you tried connecting using the built-in windows FTP client rather
than using Internet Explorer both remotely and locally ?

Lastly, try enabling or disabling (whichever is the opposite of the
current setting) Folder View in Internet Explorer and see if that
makes a difference. This KB article explains how :

HOW TO: Configure Internet Explorer to Use Both the FTP PORT Mode and
PASV Mode in Windows 2000
