Author ftp server listing problem

hi,
I want to host a ftp server :
My config : WinXPprof, IIS 5.1, router -> redirecting to specif computer is
taken care of, I use port 8250 instead of 20 or 21, (20,21 are blocked by
isp). Port 8250 is allowed by router.
On the computer itself everything works properly. (login, listing of files,
....)
From a remote computer I can login (usern+pasw) but I get a time-out (using
IE) when files are going to be displayed + the remark that I need to pay
attention to have access to the directory. Security has been set to it's
minimum and I don't think the problem lies there.
If I use ftp.exe I can login with the remote computer but I can't get a
listing of the files. (command dir: it keeps on searching) Altough, I CAN
create a directory from here...
Does anyone have an idea of what my problem can be ?
Tenx.

Could be as simple as the permissions for the folders/files aren't
allowing the logged in account access to LIST. Check NTFS permissions
for the files/folders.

NTFS permissions have been checked but everything seems to be ok.

I've just read something about a signal which the ftp server returns to the
client. At a very high port. Could this be the problem ? How do I know
which port I should open at my router ?

Any other suggestions ?

At a quick guess, that's all the information we need to take a first stab at
solving this problem.

You most likely have a NAT router, and it will only modify FTP command /
response traffic correctly if it can recognise it as FTP. FTP command /
response traffic travels on port 21, as far as the NAT is concerned.

If you have a NAT that can be told to treat port 8250 as FTP traffic, that
should be all you'll need to do, but I have no idea whether such a NAT
exists. I have not personally seen one.

Alun.
