Author HREF to .EXE link shows as "PAGE NOT FOUND"

Hello,

One of our web pages has a link to a .exe file with it.

If you click on the link, you get the standard "Page Not Found" error.

It probably has to do with property settings or something, but everything
I've found in the newsgroups doesn't apply to our situation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Steve,

What version of IIS?

In Windows Server 2003 the web service extensions will block all requests
for .exe files and return Page not Found.
In Windows 2000 and XP Pro URLScan can be installed seperately or via the
IIS Lockdown Tool, and by default will block requests for .exe files.

For Win2k3 you can create a Web Service Extension (be sure to "Allow" it)
for the specific .exe you're trying to make available.
For URLScan the urlscan.ini file can be modified to all requests for .exe
files (Note: this is global for all EXE files made available in IIS, and be
sure to restart the IIS services for the change to take effect)
