Author IIS Snap-in and Lockdown tool

Okay. I ran the lockdown tool on my system and it really messed with the
permissions. So, I went ahead and re-ran the lockdown tool to uninstall it.
Now, for some reason, I can not load the IIS snap-in from the server, nor
can I connect to the IIS service from another workstation.

What options do I have in restoring the snap-in, without losing all the
domains that are listed?

Also, I can still see the intranet with no problems, and I can edit any page
within the intranet with no problems as well.

This is on a Win2k AS SP4 machine that is a DC and has DNS installed.

TIA for your help.

Charles

The only error that I see is that when the snap-in loads, I see:
Error connecting to \\computername.
The system cannot find the path specified.

I have tried creating the snap-in manually, etc... still have the same
result.
I also read that MSKB article, didn't help. I still see the same error.

Hello Bernard! I'm still battling this problem.
I downloaded the editor. This is a new utility for me so a little guidance
in what I'm looking for would be appreciated.
I see 2 PC Icons... one marked LM, the other Schema. There are multiple
folders under each listing. They all open with no problem.
Is this what you are referring to?

Thanks.

Charles

Now this will be tough. if you can open via metaedit, but not IIS MMC, it
could be due to missing key. you have to 'find' out what is missing. and
causing the error.

main node to focus is LM. then expand one by one. set up this tool at
another IIS machine.. and see if those 'standard' key is in your affected
machine.

not going to be an easy one.. if you got metabase backup.. restore it will
be faster.

I was afraid you were going to say that. My backup is corrupt, so that's
out.
Any ideas as to what type of keys I'm looking for, or would a reg search of
IIS be sufficient enough on the problem machine and another server?

Thanks,

Charles
