| How do I get rid of automatic pop-ups planted in my
computer that are both irritating and unwanted? How do I
deactivate the relevant files/programs?

Use a pop-up blocker such as Google Toolbar and run Adaware to remove
any spyware on your machine.
Also, get some anti-virus software and keep it up to date.

| go to www.downloads.com and get SpyBot Search and Destroy. or Ad-Aware. I
preffer Spybot but they are both good. Don't get just any old spyware
sweeper as some are just as bad about putting virus... er uh spyware on as
any. In addition Spybot can be setup to imunize your computer and will
proactively stop parasitic woftware and coockies from infecting your
computer.
Good Luck
