after i installed the winxp sp2 rc2, can't get access to the local host even
i have configured the windows firewall to open port 80 for www service. I am
sure there will be a lot of people experience the same problem. Any
suggestion will be appreciated.

What is the exact error message you are seeing?

Also, you should be asking XP SP2 beta questions in the beta newsgroups.

Cheers
Ken

Hmm... works fine for me with the firewall on; I can poke all sorts of
exceptions in the firewall to enable IIS on XPSP2.

Please run this on the commandline and give the output:
NETSH FIREWALL SHOW STATE ENABLE
