IIS and SharePoint services 3.0

| Hi,
I installed SharePoint Services 3.0 to IIS6.
After that I deleted old ones (SBS 2003 companyweb etc.)
I made a new site with the name companyweb.
Internally everything works fine but I can't access the site from WEB.
I made all settngs as they were in the old site, names, ip's etc.
When I try to connect with https, I am prompted to give username and
password. After that IE says "Internet Explorer can't open the web page".
I have tried everything, but can't find any reason. I can acces OWA and
Default Web Site from the WEB.
Is there something different with SharePoint Services 3.0 vs. 2.0 relating
to SSL?

| Yes,
now I have found that I can access it by typing /default.aspx after the fqdn
name.
I moved that document in IIS to top of the list but still it needs it to be
typed.
After login it's still not working properly; when I go to shared documents
folder list, all folders and documents refers to http://companyweb/ instead
of fqdn address.
Any ideas what has gone wrong.
