I'm not sure when this broke (it did work!) but...

Running Server 2003 Enterprise, with SMTP and POP3 out of
the box so to speak. SMTP is dropping the incoming emails
into the drop folder (C:\inetpub\mailroot\drop)then they
sit there without ever getting picked up by POP3 to
distribute to the user's mail boxes.

It somewhat looks like POP3 is either not checking, or is
checking the wrong place/folder. Though we can specify a
folder for the mailboxes (C:\inetpub\mailroot\mailbox...)
there is no provision to check or set the pickup folder
(which should be the SMPT drop directory...)

Somethings not kosher, but I'm running around in circles
trying to find it.

Any ideas, anyone?
(email replies are fine, I'll get them, it is a different
email system... <g> )

Hello,

See if this helps:
http://www.ilopia.com/Windows+Serve...+Server/40.aspx

I have configured the email server and I can send emails without
problems. But all emails the server receives ends up in the Drop folder and
are not moved to the proper mailbox. What is wrong?

This can happen if you have moved the mailroot recently and forgot to
cycle the server. To cycle it, open the Services snap-in and find Simple
Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) in the list. This problem can also occur if
you created the SMTP account manually through the IIS snapin. What you have
to do in this case is to delete the domain from SMTP and then re-add it
using the POP3 tools.

Care to take a guess at what I had done that morning? <g>
I'll have to give this a try, and see what happens, but it
sounds like it may be what happened to me!

Easier said than done! <g> It was necessary to remove both
SMTP and POP3, then reinstall them. Re-created my domain
with POP3, and email is now delivered!

Seems that there is no provision to delete a local domain
in SMTP. Once created they seem to have a life of their
own, or maybe I missed something.

But, it is now fixed, and your reply was dead on. Thanks!
