Hello everyone, I have a weird problem. I installed
Computer Associates Secure Content Manager on my Exchange
server. Basically this sits in front of exchange and
processes mail before it hits Exchange. I changed the
port that Exchange listens on from 25 to 2525 and CA
Secure Content listens on 25. Yesterday for some weird
reason external mail was processing through CA Secure
Content Manager but not sending it to the users mailbox.
Whats even weirder is that once I disabled this new
program and put Exchange back on 25, all of the mail that
was lost started to process.. Where does exchange hold
this mail before sending to mailboxes. I checked the
queues and it was not there? Any ideas?

Confused,

Brian

It sounds like the CA software was not accepting mail on port 25 for some
reason, if so it would have hung on to the mail before passing to Exchange
back ofer port 2525. Since you changed Exchange to listen on port 25 it
sounds like whoever was trying to send to CA while it was having the problem
was in retry state (trying to resend the mail). When it tried again and this
time Exchange was listening on port 25, it was successful. A plausible
explanation but I'm sure there are other possibilities based on the
configuration of CA software.
