Author Authentication problems.

After another reboot, it started working (again.) That was
last night. This AM while at the kids house, I checked
their accounts. One worked fully. One could receive but
not send. About 10 minutes later, the second account could
both send and receive. Nothing changed, one time it fails,
the next time it is OK.
