I have been asked to configure SMTP relaying for a pair of production w2k/IIS5 servers and have found the "Default SMTP Virtual Server" icon does not appear on the MMC. The service is running, but adsutil.vbs does not support setting the "RelayIPList" pa
rameter - all the doc I can find on the 'Net and MS site indicates this property can't be accessed in this way at IIS5. So, it looks like I need the GUI. My next step is to simply remove the SMTP portion of the IIS install and re-install and hope the ic
on appears so I can configure the property. I have tested this in the lab and it works, but it seems a kludgy way to work. Is there a better way to "re-establish" the icon, since the SMTP service itself is OK? (Note - the servers are hardened but I do
not know to what degree; I didn't build them.) Thanks for any insights.

Hello,
This might happen because of some dll getting unregistered. Try this:
1. Go to a command prompt on the IIS server.
2. Go the following directory at the command prompt
%systemroot%\system32\inetsrv
3. Type in the following commands
regsvr32 inetmgr.dll
regsvr32 smtpsnap.dll
4. Then close and reopen IIS manager console

If the above solution does not work, check the Local Area Connection
properties to make sure that File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Windows
is enabled. If it is not enabled, enbale it.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
