Author Impact of running IIS 6 SMTP on server running Exchange

We need to have mail relayed to our Exchange server on a
different port than 25. Unfortunately, another
application expects smtp to be on 25. I'm wondering if I
can install IIS SMTP on port 25 & forward to the Exchange
server on the other port. Does anyone have any idea if
this will work, and if it will how much impact the IIS
SMTP will have on performance? It wont be very much mail.
Thanks in advance,
Sean

Hi,

The most you can do is change the port of the default SMTP server then make
a new one that listens on port 25

Also, once you install Exchange it takes over SMTP, so you no longer have
"IIS SMTP" but it is "Exchange SMTP"

Why can't your application use the Exchange server? Error message?

Problem solved. I didn't know that Exchange could listen
on 2 ports. Turns out I wont need it though, as I was
able to get the application to send to Exchange on the
nonstandard port. Thanks anyway!
