Config:
server name(real):cuba.mydomain.com
domain in pop server: mydomain.com
domains in smtp(?why more than one?): "cuba.mydomain.com" and "mydomain.com"
Dns:
MX points at "cuba.mydomain.com"..
there are two A records "cuba.mydomain.com" (my server are a gateway)..
one record points at the public IP the other one to the local IP.

I do not experianse any login problem... I can telnet to both 25 and 110

any help or thoughts are welcome..
thanks!

Make sure your smtp server able to use tcp port 53 to do DNS query.
you can change it to udp or tcp mode, open IIS help file, look for
SmtpUseTcpDns
