Trying to Move posts from one NNTP to another
|
|
| Daniel Short 2004-04-15, 12:38 am |
| Hi,
I have the following setup:
news.domain1.com/supportgroup
news.domain2.com/othergroup
I want to move all of the posts from domain1.com/supportgroup to
domain2.com/othergroup, and then mark the domain1 group as read only, so I
can continue working in the domain2 group normally.
To do this I set up the domain2 nntp server, and created a new group. I then
stopped both domain1 and domain2, copied all of the posts from the domain1
group to the domain2 group, and then right-clicked on domain2 and chose
Rebuild Server. After Rebuild Server finishes running, I check in teh
domain2 folder, and all of the nws files are now labeled nws.bad, and if I
start the server and pull messages I don't get anything back.
Has anyone ever successfully moved posts from one nntp server to another?
I've been digging through google for over an hour without a single hit on
moving an nntp server.
Thanks,

| I tried once, the newsgroups has to be the same name.
if you open the .nws file, you see the group name.
try the same group name then rebuild again.

| Well that will certainly get me halfway there . You wouldn't happen to
know if there is a way to rename a newsgroup on a Windows 2000 server? It's
certainly not in the interface if it's possible.

| I think you can rename in IIS MMC, right click the newsgroup
and select 'rename', but again those posts will be 'gone'....
so not really an option for you case.

| Yeah, and Win2k doesn't have a rename option. That must be in Win2k3.
Thanks Bernard,
